Beloved Carols
in a Fusion of

Jazz and Classic Styles

Bell Songs I Heard   American poet Longfellow wrote
"I heard the bells on Christmas Day."
This setting invokes Christmas bells
and gentle jazz harmonies.
El Desembre   "Cold December fled away"
- a charming carol from
the Catalonian region of Spain
From Lands Afar   Inspired by oriental themes,
"We Three King"
travel the lonely deserts
in search of the star.
Hornpipe of the Three Ships   The well-known medieval carol
transformed into a leaping hornpipe
Los Magos   Los magos que llegaron a Belen:
"The Magi who went to Bethlehem"
 Puerto Rican rhythms enhance
this carol for piano
Lullaby in a Manger   "Away in a Manger" in a surprising
but much loved lullaby setting
Shepherds' Pipe Noel   Shepherds playing their pipes
on a hillside
welcome angels
in the very first Noel
Willie, Pat-a-Pan    Willie plays his drum, Robin plays his fife
in a pulsating French carol

Other Sacred Selections   Immortal, Invisible   A Chopinesque fantasy
on a grand Scottish hymn sung to
Welsh tune St. Denio,  "Can mlynedd i nawr"
Lonesome Valley   Based on an Appalachian spiritual, "
Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley"
